When I meet new people and they find out that I’m in the wine business the question I get asked most often is
“What’s your favorite kind of wine?”
My answer is always “I like them all.” And really that’s true. As a wine professional who’s tasting wine every day, assessing the quality, character and value of all kinds of wines: red, white, sparkling, dessert, I have to like them all. At least to the extent that I can understand where a given wine is coming from. What should it be like? What’s its potential? How does it compare to its peers? How will it pair with food? I’m looking at all of these things whether I’m tasting wine professionally or just drinking it casually.
I will often say to people, “As consumers and wine lovers, you don’t have to like everything. You can be as close minded as you want and never drink a wine that doesn’t meet your particular taste.” It’s a nice luxury. Some of the wines that have recently drawn my attention are Monterey Pinot, Mataro, and Colchagua Valley Cabernet!
So tell us, what are your favorite wines? Do you focus on a varietal or a region or just a color? Let us know. How often do you experiment with new wines? How far do you stray? There are so many different great wines out there, how many are you enjoying? And most importantly, what can we bring you more of?
